The Blueprint for a Renters Bill of Rights
On January 25, 2023, the Biden-Harris Administration announced new actions to increase fairness in the rental market and further principles of fair housing. The Blueprint for a Renters Bill of Rights proposes a set of guidelines to protect the rights of renters. The proposed guidelines include ensuring access to affordable and safe housing, protecting tenants from unjust evictions, preventing discrimination against renters, and promoting transparency in the rental process. The blueprint also suggests measures to address issues related to security deposits, repairs, and maintenance of rental properties. The goal of the proposed bill of rights is to provide a fair and equitable rental market that benefits both landlords and renters, and to address the power imbalance between them.
